1912 Depot Returns to Grandeur
The historic Grand Depot is a 1912 Soo Line Depot that was built and originally resided in Eden Valley, MN, where it was the talk of the town. The train brought the first lights that electrified the city in 1913, and brought various types of merchandise, fresh produce, and travelers. At one time, the depot received 4 passenger trains daily. Railroad officials made the village of Eden Valley a whistle stop of its path out west. The Eden Valley Depot, as it become known, was the scene of constant activity, bringing both good and bad news from the outside world. Nothing may ever unify the town again as did the excitement of the arriving train at the depot.
In June 1913, a fire began, apparently caused by a spark from a passing locomotive. The blaze started under the depot platform at the west end of the railroad station and the platform quickly became a total loss.
Between the 1920's and 1960's, Eden Valley fielded a baseball team to compete in the Great Soo League - named after its train station.
In 1976, the station moved to Roscoe, MN, for a short time and then on to Saint Cloud, MN, where it resides today. In November 2008, after undergoing an extensive restoration overseen by new proprietor, Tim Miller, the depot reopened as The Grande Depot with the elegance and sophistication befitting the historical building.

Restoring the historical site was a passion for Miller, whose attention to detail has brought out and elevated the charm of the original structure while adding a level of rustic elegance and sophistication that will captivate those who visit. “ As customers drive up and walk in, we want the beauty of this building to take their breath away.” Miller said. |
